According to Naomi, “I think definitely becoming a mother changed my mindset a lot,” Brisbane International said.

“I believe my patience and open-mindedness have increased greatly. In addition, I feel more stronger—I’m not sure how strong I am physically, but I believe Shai has improved my perspective on things. I can’t wait to return. Since I’ve returned, I haven’t worn headphones around the site, therefore I believe it speaks to my character growth.

“I also think that my confidence in my own identity has increased. I’ve never attempted to have a discussion with another player before, and I believe I put up a significant barrier. Currently, I’m engaging with others.”

“I believe that at this moment, I’m positioning myself as best I can. I believe my game is fairly decent, but I haven’t played a match, so I can’t compare myself to anybody. I’m pleased with it since I’ve played practice sets against men and won them.

Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber is recovering from motherhood on a comparable path. The 35-year-old German, who has won many major championships, enters the United Cup mixed team tournament in an attempt to win the coveted French Open. The women’s circuit gains depth and experience with the return of these seasoned players.
