Shubman Gill, who has recently batted first for India, has stated his desire to bat third.

Since his long format debut against Australia in 2021, Gill has always started the innings with Rohit.

In terms of the batting order, Gill will bat at No. 3 since he prefers to fill that position. In a press conference on the eve of the first Test in Dominica, Rohit remarked, “He personally went up to Rahul bhai (coach Dravid) and asked that because he had played all of his cricket at No. 3 and 4, he believes he could contribute more for the team in that spot.

Given that India has been unable to field a left-right combination since Gautam Gambhir’s retirement, Rohit welcomed the shift in the top order.

India has just participated in a two-day warm-up match where they had the opportunity to test out this new lineup.

Gill participated in India’s ‘A’ squad in 2019 and batted at various places, including 3, 4, and 5.

The Men in Blue will start with three seamers and two spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, according to Rohit.

“Spinners took many wickets in the Pakistan vs. West Indies game in 2017 and we also discovered that there is some bounce on offer in the last few days when we trained,” Rohit remarked.

While it seems that Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur have clinched the spots for the two seamers, Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, and Jaydev Unadkat will need to compete to make the team.
