Supporters were warned by the Central Investigation Bureau to be on the lookout for a widely circulated post that seemed to be from the Spaniard’s Instagram account, requesting contributions of 300 baht ($8.50) to cover his travel expenses.

The statement, scrawled in Thai, said, “I am Xabi Alonso, I will be in charge of Liverpool next season, but I am short of money for my flights to Liverpool.”

One of the favorites to succeed Klopp, who stunned supporters on Friday by revealing he will stand down at the end of the season, is the former midfielder for Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Fans of Liverpool, please relax. There is already a scammer, even if Xabi isn’t the manager yet, according to the police statement that was shared on Facebook on Sunday.

The remark, which was altered to seem as if it originated from Alonso’s official Instagram account, was described by the police as “a scammer pretending to be Xabi.”

In Thailand, the Premier League has immense popularity, and Liverpool is one of the most well-liked clubs. Red jerseys and club crests can be seen on everything from people to taxis and stores.
