Henry Kissinger, a former US secretary of state, passes away at age 100

Henry Kissinger, the former secretary of state and leading American diplomat who oversaw foreign policy during the US withdrawal from Vietnam and the removal of diplomatic obstacles with China, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 100.

According to Kissinger Associates Inc., his geopolitical consulting business, the former president passed away at home in Connecticut. Under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, he had a significant impact on world events and was both demonized and awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-293321″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-players-name-submission-deadline-for-ipl-2024-auction-closes-today-report-download.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com players name submission deadline for ipl 2024 auction closes today report download” width=”1087″ height=”611″ title=”Henry Kissinger, a former US secretary of state, passes away at age 100 6″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-players-name-submission-deadline-for-ipl-2024-auction-closes-today-report-download.jpg 299w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-players-name-submission-deadline-for-ipl-2024-auction-closes-today-report-download-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1087px) 100vw, 1087px” />

He influenced world events throughout the 1970s and had a crucial role in US foreign policy. Kissinger, who was born in Germany in 1923, escaped the Nazis in 1938 and attained US citizenship in 1943. As a crucial advisor to Nixon, he arranged the Paris Peace Accords with North Vietnam, the US-Soviet weapons control negotiations, and diplomatic openings with China.

Kissinger was praised for his intelligence but came under fire for backing anti-communist governments in Latin America, which led to claims that he had committed war crimes. His contentious 1973 Nobel Peace Prize, which he shared with Le Duc Tho of North Vietnam, caused resignations from the Nobel committee. Kissinger’s power was lessened after Nixon resigned in 1974 as a result of the Watergate crisis, but he continued to have a diplomatic influence under President Gerald Ford.

Kissinger was not a very skilled diplomat. He struggled to convince Egypt and Israel to withdraw from the Sinai in 1975. The 1971 India-Pakistan War was criticized for favoring Pakistan, and it was regretted that Kissinger made disparaging statements about Indians. He conspired with the CIA to assassinate Chilean President Allende in 1970 out of fear of left-wing ideologies.

After leaving the administration, Kissinger founded a well-known consulting business, gave corporate elites advice, and made media appearances. He was appointed by George W. Bush to lead a 9/11 investigation commission, but he resigned due to controversy. After filing for divorce in 1964, Kissinger wed Nancy Maginnes in 1974. He had two children from his previous marriage. His enduring influence ignites a discussion that continues today, with praise for his diplomatic skills against charges of moral compromise.
