Deepti Sharma believes that India will soon end Australia’s winning streak, saying, “We Have Improved as a Team.”

After losing nine straight One-Day Internationals (ODIs), including two games in the current series, star off-spinner Deepti Sharma on Monday encouraged India Women to break Australia’s winning record against them at home as soon as feasible.

Australia took a commanding 2-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the second ODI here at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday by a tight margin of three runs.

India’s last home victory against Australia was on February 23, 2007, in Chennai.

“Well, there will always be wins and losses in this game, but as a team, we’ve gotten better at both batting and bowling.” Before India’s training session, Deepti told the reporters here, “We will try to break their winning streak as soon as possible.”

“There have been several advancements. The games we played against Australia in the past never got so close. We can persevere through to the finish, which is one improvement from the last game, she said.

According to Deepti, the squad will concentrate on the gains made in every sector from the second game.

As a bowling team, we performed well, with the pacers and spinners limiting them. The batters’ interplay was strong at the same time as they performed effectively, according to her.

Richa Ghosh (96 off 117 balls) and rookie Shreyanka Patil (1/43) were commended by Deepti for their energetic efforts in the second ODI.

It is difficult to perform as well as Shreyanka did in her first match. It was entertaining to see Richa play daring cricket, the woman added.

Deepti, who spearheaded India’s bowling attack with a superb five-for-38 spell—her second fifer in her career—attributed that performance to her prolonged net sessions.

If I must talk about my bowling, I’ve had a lot of practice. I’ve stepped up my bowling sessions and learned how to bowl in a variety of situations, including the new ball, middle overs, and even the death overs with the old ball,” the bowler said.

The veteran athlete said that she would try to raise her strikeout percentage. Every team plays to win, Deepti added, but sometimes you can pull it off, and other times you can’t.

“We fought hard, persevered until the end of the game, and now I’m concentrating on tomorrow’s match,” she said.
