OCA gives the Indian Olympic Association an extra week to provide the names of wrestlers for the Asian Games in 2023

After the top body requested a deadline of August 5, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has been given an extra week till July 22 to deliver the names of wrestlers for the Asian Games 2023. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has set a deadline of July 15 for all countries to deliver a list of their athletes’ names, although IOA has been given a one-week extension due to “exceptional circumstances.”
The exemption was made after the attendance of IOA’s senior executives at the General Assembly in Bangkok, including President PT Usha, Senior Vice President Ajay Patel, and Joint Secretary Kalyan Chaubey.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-65483″ src=”×422.jpg” alt=”” width=”1257″ height=”707″ srcset=”×422.jpg 750w,×576.jpg 1024w,×432.jpg 768w,×220.jpg 390w,×84.jpg 150w, 1280w” sizes=”(max-width: 1257px) 100vw, 1257px” />

The IOA officials did their best, but the OCA allowed a week’s extension, and that too they (OCA) asserted was being given under extraordinary circumstances, according to a source close to the IOA’s ad-hoc panel who spoke to PTI. Therefore, this is the final, and by July 22 we must give the names of our wrestlers.

While the IOA requested a delay until August 5, the source said that a delay over July 22 was not feasible. “They (OCA) don’t want to do something extraordinary for only India. Therefore, an extension beyond this date (July 22) is not conceivable, the source stated.

In a letter to the OCA, IOA President PT Usha requested a deadline extension for six wrestlers who were complaining so they would have more time to train for the trials before the Asian Games, which will begin in Hangzhou, China, on September 23 and be followed by the World Championships.

The six wrestlers’ prior exemption by the IOA ad hoc panel had sparked a huge uproar. A one-bout battle against the trial winners was all that was required of the wrestlers, which was objected to by other wrestlers, coaches, and their families. Now, it’s unclear if those six wrestlers will participate in the standard two-stage trial or simply one match.
